Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Dina noticed a flaw in the curse mechanic right away: somewhere, Bootstrap Bill was undead at the bottom of the ocean. I had fun making her laugh by adding “Susan” to the end of all Cmdr. Norrington’s lines, when I wasn’t deciding which 7th Sea cards best suited each scene.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
This movie captures the haphazard excitement and grandeur of a Republic matinee serial, right down to the flaws of the genre. The only thing missing is a fedora that never falls off. The squabbling and bickering between Sky Captain and Polly Perkins is the tart glue holding the adventure together.
Wonderfalls
A show about fate, unfulfilled potential, the end of adolescent apathy and satisfying surprise endings. Jaye Tyler is an underemployed philosophy grad who starts receiving cryptic instructions from talking animal souvenirs at a Niagara Falls gift shop. Following those instructions leads to hilarity and Jaye’s adult interaction with her world.

I wouldn’t call the fate of Bootstrap Bill Turner a flaw so much as I’d call it a horrible realization one can come to after thinking about the movie for a while.
I thought about Bootstrap Bill right away (we Bills must stick together); at first I was horrified at the thought of him suddenly drowning at the bottom of the ocean, but then I gave it some thought and realised that he’d have had time to divest himself of the chains and walk onto land long before – so maybe the sequel is about Bootstrap Bill being found on some Caribbean island, eh?
Wonderfalls kills me for their self-proclaimed analysis of “Gen Y,” but I have to admit, it’s kinda… well… creepy at times. Which I wasn’t expecting.
