Happy Birthday, Naomi!
You are one month old today! My goodness, but time flies when you’re awake every night!

Heading Out to Work
Funny thing is, I can’t remember how long it takes to get downtown by public transit during the morning rush hour.
Well, better early than late!
Back to the Office
I landed a two week contract at a local game developer that begins tomorrow. I’ll be spending my days at an office for the first time in eighteen months, which is going to feel very strange. I miss Dina and the kids when I’m at the grocery store alone, so I don’t know how this is going to feel.
This contract just gets my foot in the door. I hope that the project goes well and that I can lay a more permanent claim to some office space.
In the mean time, I’ve got to get a huge leg up on my current projects that have their deadlines scattered throughout the week. I’ve got a busy day ahead of me!
Picture Day
The kids were particularly photogenic over the last couple of days (or perhaps Dina and I were just more energetic), so there are massive updates on Ben and Naomi’s sites. With videos.
But here’s a picture just for my blog:

Hungry Folks in My Stairwell
You know, there’s little point in advertising a food drive if nobody’s going to pick up the food.
I’m just saying.
The bags of groceries have been sitting in my stairwell, keeping cool all day. Late this afternoon I called the depot and arranged a pickup for Monday.

I haven’t landed that full-time job or massive contract I’ve been looking for, but since my post on Wednesday, I’ve picked up two short contracts sufficient to keep Scrooge at bay this Christmas, have an interesting lead on a part-time gig, and walked into an interview yesterday afternoon when I though I was going in to negotiate a 2-4 week contract at a local game production company.
That’s a pretty busy couple of days. I hope the pace keeps up.
House of Flying Daggers
Traps, betrayals and passion abound in this tale of a captain, a criminal, and a blind assassin during the civil strife of the T’ang dynasty. A superior follow-up to Hero thanks to the human scale of the epic. Gorgeously shot, with elaborate, metaphorical special effects – and lots of flying daggers.
Did Whatever a Spider Could
In between feedings, changes, cuddles, shopping trips, editing, and job hunting, I finished playing through the storyline mode in Spider-Man 2 yesterday. I caught a break during the final Doc Ock fight and managed to take him out on the second try: he had one tentacle stuck to the floor, so Spidey was able to play uppercut-tetherball with him.
Now I’m wandering around the map, rescuing balloons and trying to pick up all the water buoy tokens without sinking to the bottom of the river. Maybe I’ll take a shot at some of the harder challenges while I’m at it.

Man, waiting is the hardest part. I’m holding off on making calls because I’m waiting to hear back about two other contracts.
Tick-tock-tick-tock-tick-tock.
Batman Begins
The refurbished cinematic origin of the Dark Knight holds up under repeated viewing, which bodes well for the future of the franchise. Nolan & Goyer’s script keeps the pulpy crimefighting stylings of the best comics, loses the camp, and balances the multiple villains that bedevil Bruce Wayne, Batman, and Gotham.
